IkerChem, won the 2010 National award "Premio Emprendedor XXI" and was selected as the most potent project among the 372 companies that took part in the contest.

Seventeen different companies, winners of the regional contests, were selected to take part in the national final phase of the 4th edition of this prize, that rewards the innovative character of the companies, together with the quality of their products, their managing and financial capabilities and their national and international projection. Six companies out of these 17 were selected to present their projects in front of a multidisciplinary jury, and recognized IkerChem as the company with the highest potential and the most complete managing and scientific team in Spain this year. The companies Kanteron and Bubock were the second and third finalists, respectively.

IkerChem, won the 2010 Basque Regional award "Premio Emprendedor XXI" and will go for the National prize on June 15-16 in Barcelona, Spain.

The companies Likuid and Nesplora were the second and third finalists, respectively.

The prize consists of an economic award for the company, in addition to the financing of the costs of a commercial mission of interest for the company and  participation in a one-week MBA course in the University of Cambridge. Moreover, Ikerchem will present the products and projects of the company in the National Award "Premio Emprendedor XXI" next 15 and 16th of June in Barcelona, where the winners of the other 16 autonomous regions in Spain will also fight for the prize.

Ikerchem Ltd will attend the 2010 Bio International Convention in Chicago ( May 3-6, 2010 McCormick Place Chicago, IL).

Expoquimia I+D+i awards: Biotechnology

Project name: "Rational design and synthesis of non-natural amino acids with antimetastatic and antiproliferative activity"

The winner project was carried out by three members of the company´s staff: Dr. Yosu Vara Salazar, Dr. Aizpea Zubia Olascoaga and Dr. Eider San Sebastian Larzabal. The work focussed on the computational design and small scale synthesis of non-natural amino acids with therapeutic activity both in vivo and in vitro , both in early and late stages of the development of certain types of cancers. In particular, the molecules generated are particularly efficient against a murine model of colon cancer in vivo, and equally efficient in vitro for the inhibition of adhesion processes related to melanoma and lymphoma cell lines.

Gipuzkoa, que estará centrada en la financiación de nuevas empresas de base
tecnológica de elevado potencial de crecimiento, capacidad innovadora y que tengan
proyección internacional. El capital inicial de la firma de capital riesgo, cuya gestión
correrá a cargo de GCRPV, asciende a 2 millones de euros, ampliables hasta 4,3
millones hasta 2009.
